Chelsea new boy Saul Niguez reveals Thiago Silva helped console him after poor debut

Speaking to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitch (h/t The Sun), Saul Niguez has revealed how Thiago Silva consoled him after a poor Chelsea debut.

Saul signed for the West London club in the dying embers of deadline day as the Blues agreed to complete a loan move with an option to buy at the end of the season. The Spaniard started training with Thomas Tuchel’s men almost instantaneously and looked the part.

However, it did not take long for the player to make his debut as Tuchel handed a start to the 26-year-old in the midfield line alongside Mateo Kovacic against Aston Villa last weekend.

However, after being pressured into conceding possession and giving the ball away a couple of times, Saul was brought off at halftime, and Jorginho was subbed in. Although the Blues went on to keep a clean sheet and score 3 goals on the day, it was not the best of days for the ex-Atletico Madrid man.

The Spaniard recently touched upon the topic during a conversation with journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitch. The 26-year-old revealed that Thiago Silva helped him cope after his poor debut. Saul said (h/t The Sun):

“After my poor performance in my first match, Thiago Silva, in particular, supported me a lot.”

The midfielder then revealed what Silva told him after the game against Villa. The Brazilian told Saul (h/t The Sun):

“My first game with Chelsea was much worse, believe me, and don’t worry.”

Silva was, in fact, referring to his debut against West Bromwich Albion last season when the Blues drew 3-3 against them, and the second goal of the Baggies was conceded due to Silva failing to gain control of the ball.

However, the Brazilian has since managed to establish himself as a key member of the squad, something the Spaniard can take solace from and work harder in training to earn another start under Tuchel. The 26-year-old will now have his eyes set on the London derby on Sunday when the Blues take on Tottenham Hotspur.
