Speaking about his predictions for the weekend to Sportskeeda (h/t The Metro) Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes that Chelsea will be ‘too strong’ for Tottenham Hotspur on the weekend.
The Blues have started the season in good form on the back of winning the Champions League last season. The West London club have so far racked up 10 points out of a possible 12 and sit joint-top of the table alongside the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Everton.
However, what has been impressive about the Blues is that they are only one of two clubs this season to only concede a single goal. The Stamford Bridge outfit maintained this record against Aston Villa last weekend, and will come into the game on the weekend on the back of a Champions League victory against Zenit.
Tottenham Hotspur, on the other hand, were top of the table before the international break but suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last weekend.
Arsenal legend Paul Merson made his prediction about the London derby on Sunday and said:
‘They (Tottenham) get to a certain place and start playing well, but suddenly, they face a struggling side and lose rather comprehensively! Crystal Palace scored two late goals, but Spurs never looked like winning even when it was 1-0.’
Merson then went on to compliment Romelu Lukaku’s performance against Zenit despite the Blues having a hard game.
‘However, he (Lukaku) popped up to score the matchwinner with a brilliant goal, and that is exactly what he brings to the team – I fancy him to score every time he plays! The fans will be up for this one, and I predict Chelsea to be too strong for Spurs on the day.’
The Blues will be travelling to North London for the game on Sunday as they look to maintain their position on the table and challenge for the league title this season.
