Wild spending from Chelsea has put off Jude Bellingham from joining the club

According to SportBild (h/t Goal), Borussia Dortmund midfielder and Chelsea target Jude Bellingham has ruled out a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer after seeing the club’s wild spending.

Along with Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City are also in the race to sign the England international. As of recent reports, Liverpool are leading the race but nothing is guaranteed yet.

Chelsea, on the other hand, went on a shopping spree in the January transfer window. They spent over £280m on eight players, including big-money signings of Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez.

Seeing the Blues’ transfer activity and supposed wild spending, Bellingham and his advisors are put off by the prospect of moving to west London in the summer.

The Dortmund star anyway has an inherent connection with Liverpool, with his footballing idol being the legendary Reds captain Steven Gerrard. A couple of weeks, Gerrard was quite open about inviting Bellingham to dinner and pitching him the Liverpool project.

Having signed Fernandez on the deadline day and keeping the interest alive in Moises Caicedo for the summer, Chelsea might not need to indulge themselves in a transfer race for Bellingham.

They are in the reckoning for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice too, although recent reports have linked the Englishman to an Arsenal move come the summer window.

We broke the British transfer record to sign Fernandez from Benfica. To get Bellingham, something near that would need to be spent. While nothing is off the charts for the current Chelsea owners, it is not sensible to go after the 19-year-old.

More Chelsea News:

They can start the scouting work now and find alternate options for a better price to sign. Getting N’Golo Kante to sign his contract extension would also be a good beginning.
