Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea star agrees two year deal to join Inter Milan

Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta is Inter Milan bound

Fabrizio Romano via Twitter has confirmed that Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has reached a full agreement on personal terms to join Inter Milan and is set to sign a two-year deal with the Italian giants.

He has also claimed that Chelsea are willing to let him leave as they will terminate his contract given the mutual respect both player and club have for each other. His exit will bring to an end a long and storied spell at Stamford Bridge.

Inter weren’t the only club interested in Azpilicueta with Barcelona also pursuing the 33-year-old. However, it is Inter who are now on the verge of landing their man.

The veteran defender had no shortage of suitors with german giants Bayern Munich, now under Thomas Tuchel also keen. Azpilicueta could be joined by his Chelsea teammate Trevoh Chalobah, who is also on the radar of the Serie A club.

Inter appears to be his likely destination right now because they are advancing his signing and personal matters have already been settled. It is fair to say that a move to the Giuseppe Meazza is all but done barring a late turnaround.

Azpilicueta has been a Blues legend since he joined the club in 2012 from Marseille. He went on to make 508 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 17 goals and winning a Champions League and two Premier League titles.

The Spanish right-back has been the club’s legend, and we will remember how he offered heart and soul for the badge when he joined the club in 2012. What’s more excellent about the 33-year-old is that he was flexible at the back, as despite being the right-back, he also played as the centre-back and gave his all.

He is one of the most senior players after Thiago Silva, whose experience on the field will be missed, but credit to Chelsea for signing another right-back for next season; otherwise, Reece James would have remained the only right-back at the club. His departure will also help the club trim down its squad and bring in new signings for the upcoming campaign.
