Bundesliga giants seeking €100m or defensive ace on Chelsea’s radar

RB Leipzig want €100 million for Chelsea and Real Madrid target Josko Gvardiol

Chelsea and Real Madrid will have to spend at least €100 million to acquire the services of RB Leipzig star Josko Gvardiol, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

The Bundesliga outfit have set a massive price tag on the Croatia international’s head. To that end, the Red Bull Arena side will not part ways with the centre-back for less than the aforementioned price.

At the moment, the Blues and Los Blancos are interested in the 21-year-old. However, the Stamford Bridge side are not the only teams eyeing him. The defender is also on the radar of Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.

Leipzig signed Gvardiol in the summer of 2021 from Dinamo Zagreb. The centre-back had already shown a lot of potential before moving to Germany. However, at Die Rotten Bullen, he has developed into a world-class player.

In the 2022 World Cup, the Croatian’s talent was on display for everyone to see. The 21-year-old was pivotal to Zlatko Dalic’s team as they made it to the semi-finals, only losing to eventual champions Argentina.

Madrid’s backline has relied on Eder Militao and David Alaba for a few years now. The La Liga giants also signed former Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger last summer as a free agent.

As for Chelsea, we have seen a lot of investment in the centre-back areas in the previous two transfer windows. We signed Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly last summer. Subsequently, in January, the Blues added Benoit Badiashile to their ranks.

Unfortunately, the Stamford Bridge side looked shaky in defence last season. Thiago Silva was the only player to live up to the expectations. However, the Brazilian is not getting any younger.

Gvardiol is a generational talent. He is definitely one for the future. However, whether the West London club will be willing to pay what Leipzig are demanding remains to be seen.
