New signing Christopher Nkunku explains ‘key factor’ behind choosing Chelsea transfer

Christopher Nkunku’s transfer to Chelsea became official earlier this week. It was known among the fanbase that there was something concrete between RB Leipzig and the Blues for months.

It seemed inevitable. But it is always an adrenaline rush once that official confirmation comes. According to Fabrizio Romano, the fee paid to Leipzig was around €60million.

He has now had his first interview as a Chelsea player. He was speaking to the official club media when he was asked to explain the ‘key factor’ behind his decision to come to Stamford Bridge. He replied:

“I think the project was good for me. It is a good project for me to develop myself as a player and a man also. And this is a good city, after all, and for sure I want to improve in football and I want to win trophies and improve myself also. So I think this is a good project for me at this moment. This is a good project, for sure.”

Brilliant signing

Chelsea had a horrid season last time out, finishing 12th in the league. Perhaps Nkunku agreed to come here at a time when European qualification was still a possibility for us.

But the fact of the matter is, this Chelsea team needs players who are here to stay and fight to make this team reach the top once again. This summer transfer window is showing us that not all of our current players make the cut in that regard.

Nkunku seems like he is up for the challenge here. It is an incredible signing because the 25-year-old France international’s ability to create and score goals up front is truly amazing.

He ended last season with 23 goals and nine assists to his name in 36 games across competitions. We would kill to have those numbers here at the Bridge…

More Chelsea News:

Chelsea seem to be ruthless in their pursuit of making a squad full of players who are just reaching their prime or are still in their formative years. There could be a very young, very new-looking Chelsea team next season and Nkunku will undoubtedly be one of the star players in that bunch. Hopefully, that is our striker worries sorted for at least 5-7 years.
