23-year-old Chelsea transfer target dreams of Premier League experience

Chelsea target Rafael Leao claims he wants to play in Premier League

AC Milan star Rafael Leao has confirmed he wants to play in the Premier League sometime in his career amidst interest from Chelsea.

The 23-year-old has been the subject of two failed attempts by Chelsea to acquire him after AC Milan rejected their bids. He is arguably the Rossoneri’s best-attacking player and won the Serie A MVP award last season.

Now that Leao has signed a five-year contract with the Serie A club, Chelsea’s prospects of recruiting the Portuguese striker have taken a blow for the short term. We can obviously pay over the odds to land him but it is better to wait and make a move for him sometime in the future.

With 12 goals in 32 Serie A appearances this season, the 23-year-old has solidified his position as Milan’s best player. His presence was felt in the UEFA Champions League semi finals. He missed the first leg but looked out of sorts in the second leg as Inter Milan won 3-0 on aggregate.

But following his dream to play in the Premier League, could once again motivate the Blues to make an offer for Leao in the future, as the forward revealed to Record (h/t Mirror):

“Anyone would like to play in the Premier League because it’s a very competitive league.” It has engaging football, great teams, and a worldwide audience. Serie A is currently very well positioned in international football. The Premier League in the future

Most players harbour an interest to play in the Premier League, and a player of Leao’s stature is undoubtedly suited for the English top division.

The physical nature of the league could prove to be a challenge. He did not particularly impress against English sides and could do with improving on that facet of his game.

And then maybe we can pursue the 23-year-old, and at the moment we have enough players who can operate from his position, and even if we are able to sign him, playing him in the number nine role could be risky as he can’t guarantee goals in and out. So, it would be better for us to go for him in the future when the chance arises.
