Gavi informs Barcelona of his decision amid Chelsea interest

Gavi has told Barcelona he is committed to the club and will remain there

Following Chelsea’s attempts to entice Gavi away from the club, Gavi has informed Xavi Hernandez, the manager of Barcelona, that he wants to stay with the team.

According to Sport, (h/t Metro) Xavi has spoken to Gavi about his future and informed him that, despite the uncertainties, he is still an important member of his team, adding that he “cannot imagine his midfield without him.”

At Barcelona, Gavi has established himself as a key player and a reliable starter. Despite this, the Catalan Giants have not yet registered the player because of their salary cap.

A recently renewed agreement for the former youth team player mandated that he be listed on the first team roster. However, because Barcelona were unable to adhere to the salary ceiling rules, La Liga terminated his registration.

This implies that the 18-year-old would still be bound by the terms of his previous Juvenile A contract. The youngster, who is devoted to the team, is expecting that the Spanish club will sign his contract before the summer transfer market begins.

Mateu Alemany, the director of football at Barcelona, also said that Gavi will play for the club until his retirement.

It is clear that he wants to stay in Barcelona. However, we should instead go for a holding midfielder since that is our priority. Gavi could have also fit that role given he is an aggressive midfielder who likes to press the opponents and win possession back, but he is still young and lacks certain traits.

We should remain on our toes to be able to capitalise whenever a good opportunity arises on the market. There isn’t a lot Barcelona can do if their financial restraints don’t allow them to register a new player or a current player’s new contract.
