Chelsea ‘moving quickly’ to beat Barcelona in the race for Brazilian centre-forward

Chelsea are ‘moving quickly’ to beat Arsenal and Barcelona in Vitor Roque race

A report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claims that Chelsea are ‘moving quickly’ to sign Athletico Paranaense centre-forward Vitor Roque.

The 18-year-old has become one of the most-talked-about youngsters in Brazilian football in recent months. Real Madrid’s success with Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior would have ignited a fire in other teams to discover similar talents from Brazil.

Roque hasn’t put up statistics that would make one get out of their chair. The teenager has 12 goals and five assists in 46 games across competitions for Athletico-PR’s senior side.

Still, it seems that teams have seen something in him which has convinced them that he could be the next big thing to come out of South America. Arsenal are said to be interested, and so are Barcelona.

What should Chelsea do?

However, the Catalan giants could be at a disadvantage given their financial troubles as the Brazilian club would want to listen to the most financially lucrative offer for their prized asset. Now, what should Chelsea do?

It is baffling that the Blues are just signing players left right and centre without a seemingly set strategy. We have a massive, massive squad that already needs trimming down.

Youngsters have been signed one after another ever since Todd Boehly took charge. Kendry Paez is another player we are seemingly close to signing from the Ecuadorian league, although he will only be able to join us in 2025.

Simply said, Roque isn’t a solution for the present. Todd Boehly and co. cannot keep thinking about the future when the present is bleak. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang isn’t the solution to our striker troubles. Armando Broja isn’t world-class yet.

Romelu Lukaku continues to divide opinions and a decision will have to be taken on him if and when he returns from his loan spell at Inter Milan. Simply said, we have to clear house – prioritise quality over quantity. Once we have our striker situation sorted, then we should use the funds to resume making signings that will start to benefit us a few years from now rather than in the present.
