Transfer News: Graham Potter wants to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato Web (h/t Football.London), new Chelsea manager Graham Potter wants to sign Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane.

However, it is reported that this move would only be dependent on whether the Blues can offload Romelu Lukaku next summer. The Belgian international is currently out on loan at Inter Milan.

After signing for Chelsea for a whopping fee of £97.5m from Inter in the summer of 2021, Lukaku had an underwhelming time back at Stamford Bridge last season. As a result, he is back playing for the Italian side this season.

All that was done when Thomas Tuchel was in charge though. The Blues sacked the German last week and appointed the former Swansea City manager Potter to lead this new era under the American owners.

It would be interesting to know what the Englishman has in his mind regarding Lukaku’s future at the club post-summer. If we keep the above revelation in mind, he is ready to spend money on Kane, which could mean a permanent departure for the Belgian.

Kane is without doubt one of the Premier League legends. He brings a guarantee of goals when leading the Tottenham line. If Chelsea could prize him away from north London, they would have a number nine who can give them 20-25 league goals per season at a minimum.

The Blues have had a struggle of late in getting goals from their number nines. Last season, even with Lukaku in the squad, they struggled to put the ball in the back of the net.

They did sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the deadline day of this summer window. However, the former Arsenal marksman is 33 now and cannot keep playing at the top level forever.

More Chelsea News:

So, it would make a lot of sense to sign Kane. The 29-year-old is at the prime of his career and has a good few years left in him. The challenge is to entice him away from Tottenham and simultaneously find a club to sell Lukaku.
