“Not that easy”- Tuchel asks out-of-favour Chelsea midfielder to ‘accept’ his situation at the club

Thomas Tuchel speaks up on the future of Chelsea outcast Ross Barkley

According to Evening Standard, Thomas Tuchel wants Ross Barkley to realise and accept his situation at Chelsea. The manager admitted that the midfielder was probably behind all the others in the pecking order and that he has to come to terms with it.

Barkley was quite the talent that emerged from Everton. However, things have gone a little awry since moving to Chelsea. Barkley has fared fairly well in the rare chances that he has been given but to put it simply, others have been far more consistent than him. Last season, he was allowed to move to Aston Villa on loan.

However, his form faded rapidly and he was back at Stamford Bridge. He was expected to exit the club but no move materialized by the end of the deadline day. That has left him in limbo over his future at Chelsea. The arrival of Saul Niguez will hardly help his cause. It has put him behind at least four midfielders and probably even Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Thomas Tuchel elaborated on the 27-year-old’s future. He understood the situation the midfielder was in and wanted him to stay positive despite all that is going on.

“I don’t have these answers because I don’t follow him long enough and don’t know him long enough. In the moment he is part of the training group, a regular part of the training group, and now it’s most important that he accepts the situation. He does not have to love the situation, but he needs to accept it in a positive way. This is what I feel from him and hopefully he can keep this spirit up. It’s not that easy because we have a lot of players for his positions.”

Ross Barkley is now stuck at Chelsea.

Tuchel went on to add that his spell at Villa was below par and that makes it difficult for Barkley to push back into the side. Apparently, efforts were made to loan him out again but it was not possible. However, Tuchel promised to treat him as a professional now that he is at the club. For now, he will keep working in training but his match prospects look far too bleak.
