According to a report by Manchester Evening News (h/t The Sun), Manchester United do not see Chelsea transfer target, Jadon Sancho, as a ‘priority signing’.
This is due to the form of Mason Greenwood. The 19-year-old has 5 goals in his last 5 Premier League games, which takes his season’s tally to an impressive eleven.
Earlier this week, German outlet BILD (h/t The Sun) reported that Jadon Sancho fancies a return to England. And the two teams that were dubbed as front-runners were Chelsea and Manchester United.
But now, it seems the Red Devils have cooled their interest in the former Manchester City winger to a certain extent. Sancho has also had an amazing season in the Bundesliga.
He has scored 14 goals and bagged 18 assists despite a slow start to the season. There is no doubt that the 21-year-old is still one of the hottest young prospects in world football.
The news of United trusting Greenwood in such a manner would come as a boost to Thomas Tuchel’s team, granted if their interest in Sancho is real and if they will actually act upon it in the upcoming transfer windows.
Tuchel’s system at Chelsea, since he has come in, favours wingbacks and proper wingers like Sancho might have to tweak their game a little bit to accommodate themselves in Tuchel’s 3-4-1-2/3-4-2-1 set-up.
But that is a conversation for later. Another question arises if Sancho is an urgent signing to the extent that the team compromises in other positions to get him in.
Chelsea, with their back-three formation, should look to bring a centre-back in and someone up front to either play alongside or replace Timo Werner, considering the German’s underwhelming scoring rate.
