According to news from Football.london, Porto manager Sergio Conceicao admitted that he would have liked Chelsea to have won their last game. Conceicao chose to not delve much into the defeat to West Brom and actually wanted to face a Chelsea side that was coming on the back of a win.
Chelsea were winners in their last round against Atletico Madrid, winning both games as the Porto manager was fixated more on that. Porto somewhat surprised everyone by knocking out a side like Juventus in the round of 16.
However, Chelsea encountered their first loss under Thomas Tuchel at the weekend as West Brom took full advantage of a 10-man Chelsea side. A 2-5 scoreline was bound to jolt Chelsea up and Conceicao was of the exact same opinion.
“I didn’t consider that match. I [used] previous matches, against Atletico, but not that one. It changes the profile of the squad when they play with other players.
Tuchel, even when winning, can change the squad whether he’s playing with two men forward or two in midfield. It changes the dynamics.
In the last match I watched it but I didn’t present an analysis to our players. Before that they had been extremely competent. They have the second best defence in the Champions League, they are a consistent and strong team.”
Chelsea will need to be wary of the threat posed by Porto. They have players who can seriously take the game to Chelsea. One can only hope Chelsea have come to their senses after the last defeat as Porto will be a much sterner challenge.
