Transfer News: Real Madrid to rival Chelsea for Gabriel Menino

According to transfer news from CaughtOffside, Real Madrid are set to rival Chelsea for the signing of Gabriel Menino. The Brazilian starlet, rated at €14million, has impressed with his performances and now the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea are after him.

Gabriel Menino is a 20-year-old Brazilian central midfielder who is a youth product of Palmeiras. He joined the youth setup in 2017 and over the years, he has progressed to the first team. Last year, he made his debut for Palmeiras against Ituano. So far, he has made 64 appearances for the Brazilian side, scoring 4 and assisting 7.

The Brazilian is a good utility player to have in the side. Even though the 20-year-old is a central midfielder, he can play at right-back, right midfield, right-wing, defensive midfield, as well as in central attacking midfield.

It seems like Real Madrid are not only battling Chelsea on the pitch but off it as well. The Blancos are the latest side to register their interest in the highly versatile Brazilian. Nonetheless, Real Madrid splashing the cash on Brazilian starlets is nothing new with the club spending big on the likes of Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo and Reinier Jesus in recent seasons.

Gabriel Menino Palmeiras scores his penalty in penalty competition during the second leg of the Recopa Sul-Americano 2021 Final also known in Spanish as Recopa Sud-Americano football match between Palmeiras of Brazil and Defensa y Justicia of Argentina at the Estadio Mane Garrincha in Brasilia, Brazil on April 14th 2021. Palmeiras won the first leg 1-2 in Buenos Aires last Wednesday April 7th, 2021. The game was played in Brasilia as all in currently suspended in Sao Paulo state as the state is in Emergency State regarding Covid 19. Richard Callis/Zimel Press.

The Spanish side view Menino as Casemiro’s successor, who is already 29 years old. However, Chelsea feel the same as Kante is growing older. They want to groom Menino in that way to succeed the Frenchman.

As both sides square off on the pitch, they will aim to square off it too with Menino representing a long-term option for both. While the player is valued at a modest €14million, that price is likely to shoot up due to the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid wanting him.
