According to Daily Mail, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has taken a jab at Roman Abramovich for his sacking of Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.
The Blues legend was fired after 18 months in charge following a run of poor results. His reputation with the club did him little good after he was shown the door on Monday.
While Klopp acknowledged the financial support Abramovich provides, he has called into question the lack of patience the Russian oligarch possesses.
“It’s really harsh to make the decision that early but obviously Mr Abramovich gives you chances and money but isn’t the most patient in the world.”
Klopp believes Lampard will do better elsewhere, away from the historical affinity he has with Chelsea. With the pressure off him, he will have a better chance of succeeding.
“I really feel for Frank because he’s a young, talented manager but it’s a hard one if it’s your club. The story is over now and he can go everywhere and be fresh without history.”
Lampard has been succeeded by former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel, the same man who replaced Klopp at Signal Iduna Park in 2015.
Klopp believes Tuchel is a good manager and will do well with the resources at his disposal. While he had no piece of advice for his German counterpart, he did hint at Tuchel will need to succeed in order to keep his job.
“How many coaches did Chelsea have in the last 15 years? There you are successful or out, that’s the mantra.”
The Liverpool boss also expects Lampard to bounce back from the setback. It is heartening to see that Klopp has not let their touchline spat from last season affect his view on the matter.
While it is fine for one to sympathize with Lampard, it is fair to say that the writing was on the wall for some time now. The 42-year-old showed glimpses of tactical acumen but also struggled at numerous points.
It is fair to assume that the Chelsea job came too early in his managerial career. However, the opportunity will have taught him well as he now looks to make his name elsewhere.
