According to Sky Germany (h/t Football.london), Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger is set to be offered a new lease of life under Thomas Tuchel.
The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Bridge this season. He has been limited to just nine appearances across all competitions. (h/t Transfermakt)
Rudiger was linked with a move away in the summer but a deal failed to materialise. He was also one of the players accused of causing issues behind the scenes prior to Frank Lampard’s dismissal.
The revelations caused animosity towards the player from Chelsea fans. Striker Tammy Abraham has since come forward to dismiss the allegations. (h/t Daily Mail)
Tuchel is aware of the German defender’s talent, having pursued him while at PSG. He is now keen to make use of the opportunity to work together at the Bridge.
Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma were the first choice centre-back pairing under Lampard. It remains to be seen how Tuchel decides to set up his Chelsea XI.
A veteran defender, Rudiger can be excellent or poor on his day. This inconsistency has seen him struggle to hold down a regular starting spot.
A master tactician, Tuchel can hopefully coax out the best from the 27-year-old. It is now up to the defender to showcase he has what it takes to succeed at Chelsea.
Tuchel has informed the players that he is willing to give them a new lease of life. The likes of Jorginho and Marcos Alonso saw their reputations take a hit under Lampard. Now that they have been given a chance to prove themselves, it remains to be seen how they react.
