Tottenham Hotspur assessing and sweating over star forward Timo Werner’s fitness as they prepare for their clash with Chelsea

RB Leipzig loanee Timo Werner is unlikely to play against his former team Chelsea as he was forced out of the North London derby loss to Arsenal because of an injury. Tottenham is sweating over his fitness before the Chelsea clash.

After suffering a hamstring injury on Sunday, Tottenham attacker Timo Werner will have scans to see if he will be ready to play against the Blues for the last stretch of the Premier League season.

Under Ange Postecoglou, the German has established himself as a fixture on the left wing and has made five straight starts. His injury made the day more challenging for the Spurs.

Chelsea is playing Tottenham Hotspur in a major London derby with the goal of cutting the distance to the European spots. At this point in the competition, the Blues would greatly benefit from the ruling out of a crucial Tottenham player.

Werner joined Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig in January after joining Leipzig from Chelsea in August 2022 and he has established a respectable reputation for himself. The former Chelsea player has made a good impression on Tottenham, contributing three assists and two goals in his 13 Premier League games thus far.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has had a rough season so far, with injuries throughout the campaign. The Blues still have a long injury list, including key players like Reece James, Levi Colwill, and Enzo Fernandez, who are unavailable for the crucial clash against the Spurs.

Pochettino need to prepare a strong squad ahead of the Spurs clash

On the other hand, positive news for Chelsea is that one of their key players, Raheem Sterling, is on his way to improvement, with his potential return date being the clash against Tottenham.

Chelsea currently sit in ninth place in the Premier League standings, with a huge gap of 12 points between them and their rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who are in fifth place. The Blues need to win all of their remaining games if they want any chance of qualifying for Europe.
