According to The Express, Chelsea star Marcos Alonso may have sealed his exit from the club following an ill-advised post on Instagram.
The Spaniard has fallen out of favour after his falling out with Frank Lampard at the Hawthorns earlier in the season. He has not featured for the club since and is behind Ben Chilwell and Emerson Palmieri in the pecking order.
The Blues are keen to move him on and could do just that once the January transfer window opens.
Alonso caused controversy at the weekend after appearing to like an Instagram post that displayed the club’s loss to Arsenal.
While it is unclear if the player did mean any malice, given his current situation he would have done better not reacting at all. Alonso has attracted attention from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and could secure a six-month loan in the new year.
According to Italian publication Tutto Mercato (h/t The Express), Atletico have agreed to take the defender on loan and also pay 50% of his wages.
The 30-year-old was earlier linked with a move to Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus. The former, currently managed by ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, also unsuccessfully tried to take the youngster on a loan. (h/t The Express)
With more than two years left on his current deal, the Blues were keen to rid themselves of the defender. However, their asking price of £20million has proven to be a bridge too far
The Spanish international joined Chelsea in 2016 from Fiorentina. He has since made 152 appearances, scoring 22 goals and assisting 17 more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
It would appear that his Blues stint is coming to a rather unceremonious end.
