According to the Guardian, Chelsea have been in touch with Bayer Leverkusen regarding the transfer of Kai Havertz.
The German ace is one of the best young players in Europe and has attracted attention from the biggest names on the continent.
Frank Lampard is keen to play the youngster alongside Timo Werner, who has agreed to join the Blues on principle. Having also signed Hakim Ziyech, the Chelsea attack will be too hot to handle next season.
Although the club kept within touching distance of Liverpool and Manchester City, our opponents’ quality shone through and they soon left us behind.
The addition of the trio will significantly boost our firepower in an effort to close the gap at the top. Agreeing on a deal for Havertz is not going to be easy.
Leverkusen could hold out for as much as £89m for a player who has scored five goals in four games since the Bundesliga resumed last month.
Havertz is capable of playing a variety of attacking positions and will be an excellent addition to the Chelsea squad. He can also play as a centre-forward, a position he has thrived in of late.
Chelsea have been making one big move after the other as our rivals have been caught unaware. The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all could be left behind if we get this window right.
So far, that seems to be the case. Let us hope it continues to do so.
