PSG accept £259m bid for 24-year-old Chelsea transfer target

A world-record bid by Al-Hilal for Chelsea target Kylian Mbappe has been accepted by PSG

As per Sky Sports News, French champions PSG have accepted a world-record £259m bid for Chelsea target and footballing superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Earlier in the day, it was revealed that the Saudi Arabia club have made this insane bid to sign Mbappe for just a season. The player will then be allowed to leave for free to don the Real Madrid jersey from the 2024/25 season onwards.

A few days ago, the Athletic (subscription required) reported that the French superstar was excluded from the PSG pre-season squad due to the uncertainty about his future with the Ligue 1 champions.

It was also said that Premier League sides Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the 24-year-old forward. Frankly, the link with Spurs and Arsenal can be laughed off. Chelsea do have the capability to sign a player for big money. Whether they have it for this summer is a different issue.

And to be very honest, the Blues do not need to spend a fortune to sign Mbappe. The Frenchman plays his best football when cutting in from the left wing. Mauricio Pochettino has three options for that position going into the new season – Mykhaylo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling and Christopher Nkunku.

So, let’s just enjoy this saga unfolding and see how it materialises in the coming days. It sounds slightly stupid that Al-Hilal are ready to pay a world-record fee to sign Mbappe just for one season. It is as if they are told by Real Madrid to do that before they can have him for free next summer.

Those are just theories, of course. But crazier things have happened in football before. It is becoming clearer and clearer that Chelsea, if they wish to be in FFP’s good books, cannot compete for the signing of Mbappe.
