Journo says £20m Chelsea starlet ‘could still go’ on loan this summer

Dean Jones says Chelsea could send Carney Chukwuemeka on a loan

Journalist Dean Jones has confirmed Chelsea are contemplating sending Carney Chukwuemeka on loan, but the youngster is preferring to remain at the club for next season.

He further states that the midfielder is determined to prove his credentials to Mauricio Pochettino, and if given enough game time, he could be a first-team player next season.

The 19-year-old barely received game time to exhibit his talent in the last campaign, which could make Chelsea send him on loan for more minutes on the pitch. He was signed from Aston Villa last summer for a fee of £20million.

The U21 England international featured in 14 Premier League games since then and could be loaned out to Strasbourg, according to Jones, given Chelsea’s stake in the Ligue 1 giants.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones gave a major update on the 19-year-old’s future at Chelsea for next season and claimed:

“The future of Carney Chukwuemeka is going to come more and more into the spotlight as we move through pre-season. My information is that the player is extremely determined to make the most of this opportunity to impress a new manager and genuinely believes he could make an impression if he is given a proper chance in the Premier League. But Chelsea is keeping the door open on this one, and he could still go.”

We currently have Andrey Santos and Cesare Casadei as our young midfielders who can still become first-team stars if they impress Pochettino in these preseason games. Chukwuemeka did, however, receive playing time and display sparks of his expertise last season. But ultimately Pochettino would make decisions about the futures of our youngsters once our USA tour ends.

He will have a lot of choices to make in midfield and may decide to loan some of them out as Chelsea are still pursuing some midfielders signings with more experience, with Moises Caicedo and Mohammed Kudus in their sights. We wouldn’t want the 19-year-old to stay here and waste his potential by staying on the bench. So if he isn’t a major part of Poch’s plans right now, a loan move, especially to an English team, wouldn’t be a bad idea.

The fact remains that we have sold Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek this year. So if we don’t sign at least two more experienced midfielders, keeping the former Aston Villa man would also make sense. It depends on who we sign and how Chukwuemeka plays in the next few weeks.
