Chelsea drop £2m-a-year Airline deal as Blues aim to comply with spending rules

Chelsea terminate deal with shirt sponsor Oman Air

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea have turned down a new sponsorship with Oman Air as the club works to avoid breaching profit and sustainability rules next season, as they are walking on a thin line of violating the Financial Fair Play rule.

Chelsea announced that Oman Air will become the club’s newest sponsor before the start of the summer, which was thought to be around £2 million a year. However, it is yet to be named in the club’s sponsorship lists, which means the club has terminated their deal with Oman Air.

This further reveals the club will once again have to find a new sponsor, as they won’t have the sponsor’s name on the front side of the shirt for next season. In the middle of the season, Mauricio Pochettino was pictured posing with the Oman Air name on his shirt.

The deal fell because a problem over the agreement arose on the Oman side, which forced Chelsea to agree to a termination, but neither party has commented or disclosed any details. However, £2 million a year is a smaller figure in the league, and the Blues will have to find a new sponsor deal to comply with profit and sustainability rules.

Things may get worse for the club financially if they fail to do so next season, as the Premier League will declare the result of the club’s financial spending in the next summer window. Chelsea have been one of the big spenders on players’ signings and have made little revenue, which will pose a danger for the club to accommodate FFP.

In an attempt to turn a profit, the club is already working to sell a large number of players next summer window, but it appears that this won’t be sufficient because they also must figure out other sources of income.£2 million annually.
