Chelsea could use Romelu Lukaku in swap deal to bring back Blues academy graduate

AS Roma are keen on doing swap deal with Chelsea involving Romelu Lukaku and Tammy Abraham

Chelsea seems to have found a way to get rid of Romelu Lukaku next summer. The Belgian was loaned to Serie A club Roma and is enjoying a productive spell with the Italian club, with 18 goals to his name across all competitions.

Chelsea want to sell the striker permanently and hope to recoup some of the money from his exit, but it remains to be seen if Roma will be ready to sign him permanently and ready to meet the Blues asking price of Lukaku.

According to Corriere dello Sport, via Express, the club has another option to make a swap deal with Roma that will see former Blues star Tammy Abraham come to Stamford Bridge and the 30-year-old join Roma permanently.

The former Everton striker has no plans to return to Chelsea and would want to opt for a permanent exit from the Blues. The Belgium striker joined Chelsea in 2021 for £97.5 million but struggled to justify his price tag and was eventually loaned back to Inter following the season.

The Blues were in talks with Inter to sell the striker to them permanently, but Lukaku had other intentions as he negotiated talks with Juventus in order to transpire a move to the Old Lady. This saw Inter pull out of the race to sign the former Manchester striker, and talks with Juventus also fell through.

Bringing Abraham is another poor decision because he hasn’t been a regular striker and has become a peripheral figure for Roma. The striker suffered an ACL injury this season and has been on the sidelines for an extended period of time.

However, the player has returned to full fitness, but bringing him back doesn’t add up. Abraham enjoyed only a single season at Roma before his form drastically fell, and since then he has been struggling for game time, with injuries also derailing his actions.

It will be better if we find another means of selling Lukaku permanently, given that Roma are not willing to pay his £36 million price tag. We can wait until the summer to see if there are other clubs that will be keen on acquiring his services.
