Chelsea add Eredivisie manager to shortlist as pressure grows on Mauricio Pochettino

Chelsea eye Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as Pochettino’s future hangs in the balance

The pressure is mounting on Mauricio Pochettino as a consequence of the inconsistent season that Chelsea are enduring in the ongoing campaign. The Londoners lay eleventh in the Premier League table despite spending over a billion pounds since Todd Boehly took over the reins at Stamford Bridge. This has been a cause of frustration in West London among the fans as well as officials at Chelsea.

Although many supporters are asking for Pochettino’s head, Todd Boehly has decided to wait for the conclusion of the season before deciding on the Argentine’s future at the club.

Pochetitno’s possible exit opens up a door for probable replacements and Chelsea are said to be interested in Feyenoord coach Arne Slot.

The 45-year-old was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur last summer before Daniel Levy decided to employ Australian coach Ange Postecoglou at Hotspur Way. Arne Slot instead signed an extension to his contract at De Kuip.

Arne Slot has always favoured a powerful and purposeful style of play where the attack starts from the last defender while the defensive aspects start from the first attacker. It is a philosophy that blends aggression with overloads.

He has managed to establish Feyenoord as an assertive contender in the Eredivisie. Slot has also been linked with a move to Bayern Munich and is potentially in line to take over at Allianz Arena from former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea have had a high turnover of managers since Todd Boehly took charge, and none of them resulted in positive change. This could soon have a domino effect on the squad and the potential acquisition of talent that is to be done at Cobham. It’s about time that the manager is judged based on progress in the process and given time to mark his imagination on the pitch.

Mauricio Pochettino has struggled at Chelsea though his teams have played some exceptional football lately with the passes and the runs clicking. He has to prove his credentials in the rest of the season, if he doesn’t then Arne Slot seems like an exciting option.
