Pundit says Jeremy Doku battle will give Chelsea star a lot of ‘confidence’

ESPN Ppundit Don Hutchinson was captivated by Chelsea player Malo Gusto and his performance vs Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku

Since joining the Blues, Chelsea star Malo Gusto has become a key component under Mauricio Pochettino and has filled in admirably at both right-back and left-back this season and his performance against Jeremy Doku grabbed eyeballs, to say the least.

But Gusto has settled way quicker than we thought, and his presence hasn’t seen the fans miss Reece James. Gusto was top-notch against City, blocking all the threats carried by Jeremy Doku from the right.

The 20-year-old was phenomenal throughout the game and nullified Doku. Though his performance has gone under the radar, ESPN pundit Don Hutchison was captivated by his performance and told ESPN:

“I thought Gusto had a really good game. He’s a good player when he goes forward, Reece James-like. When he gets forward, he’s got a good delivery. That will give him a lot of confidence when you play him against [Jeremy] Doku, because normally when you play against someone like that, it’s very, very tricky. What you’re taught to do is show him inside into traffic, but he actually quite fancied himself in 1v1.”

Gusto has been scintillating for us.

We have a jewel on our hands because, despite his youth, he joined Chelsea and adjusted far too soon. Gusto played a great game, and it was admirable how he neutralised Doku’s danger from the right side.

In James’s absence, he appears to have emerged as one of the most crucial players, and when the England international recovers from a hamstring injury, there will likely be fierce competition for him.

He isn’t afraid to defend 1v1; he makes the right decisions, and his crossing is always precise in the opposition box. What is more impressive is that he already has four assists in 18 Premier League games in his first season in the English top-flight league. With more chances, he will continue to excel like this in the Blues shirt.
