Official: Sam Jewell agrees to join Chelsea

Chelsea raid Brighton yet again, this time for Sam Jewell

According to the Seagulls’ official site, Sam Jewell, who was the head of recruitment at Brighton & Hove Albion has agreed to join Chelsea and take up a senior position at the Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are not only stacking talents on the field but also ensuring that they have the smartest minds off it in the offices as well.

Jewell has officially stepped down from his position at the South Coast club and looks set to take up a global role at the club within BlueCo Group’s multi-club model. The job with the Londoners is expected to start in November following his gardening leave.

Sam Jewell took over the role of head of recruitment from Paul Winstanley, who also left Brighton to join Chelsea about a year and a half back.

Todd Boehly has brought in another difference-maker for Chelsea off the field.

This move comes after Chelsea are in the process of appointing Josh Marsh from Swansea City who is expected to act as the new loan manager at Stamford Bridge. The Blues from London continue to build the top management around co-sporting directors Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.

The Seagull connection

Jewell will have a lot to adapt to when he pulls up at Cobham, but also a lot of familiar faces have followed this track off late. Winstanley, Stewart, and Graham Potter, along with several other coaches have made the move from the South Coast to London. Spanish defender Marc Cucurella also moved to the Bridge in the summer of 2022 and was soon followed by Robert Sanchez. Last summer Moises Caicedo made a dramatic headline move to Chelsea for a deal worth £115m, beating interest from Liverpool.

Sam Jewell is the latest person to swap Brighton for Chelsea.

Back in October of last year, Rangers offered the role of technical director to Sam although he opted to turn that down and focus on continuing his work at Brighton. We have had to wait for a while, but if he continues to make a difference, this time in Blue, it will have been well worth our patience.
