Loan Watch: Chelsea loanee stars for Premier League club with 2 goals to rescue draw

Chelsea loanee David Datro Fofana came off bench to secure a draw for Burnley against Fulham

Chelsea loanee David Datro Fofana scored twice to rescue a point for Burnley in their 2-2 draw with Fulham. The Ivorian wasn’t in the starting lineup but was introduced in the 63rd minute and had an instant impact.

The Cottagers, who haven’t won an away game since the start of the new season, were cruising towards a win after goals from Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Muniz.

But Fofana’s introduction in the second half spoiled the party for Marco Silva’s side, as he first gave the Clarets some hope when he headed the ball in the 71st minute. The game looked to have ended with Fulham securing a 2-1 win, but Fofana was once again in the spotlight when he found the back of the net in stoppage time.

It was a great introduction for the 20-year-old, who endured a poor spell in his first-half loan stint at Union Berlin in 17 games. Fofana has now equaled his Berlin tally in just two games for Burnley.

Meanwhile, Vincent Kompany remains seven points adrift of safety. Fofana’s loan signing might give the club some hope as they have lost 19 Premier League games after conceding first. The Chelsea man’s signing appears to have handed them a new edge in attack and it could prove decisive.

Fofana’s late intervention lifted the mood inside Turf Moor stadium, and the forward impact could also have given his ticket to the starting lineup under Kompany. This is good news for Chelsea, seeing one of their promising talents secure regular playing time in the top flight.

For the Ivorian, who battled at Union Berlin and scored very few goals, it was a game to remember. And after just two Burnley games, he already has two goals and one assist. Under Vincent Kompany, our loanees have always performed admirably. The first star to benefit greatly from a stint under the former Manchester City player was Ian Maatsen; perhaps Fofana will follow in the same footsteps.

However, in just two games, he has demonstrated his potential; perhaps, this will earn him a spot in the starting lineup and aid in his rapid development, enabling him to emerge as their primary striker and keep them from relegation.
