Mauricio Pochettino expresses his views on Raheem Sterling’s record of winning the most penalties in the Premier League this season

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has shared his view on Raheem Sterling‘s Premier League record in the press conference, according to Football London. The Argentine was speaking to the media after his side’s narrow win against Fulham.

According to Squawka Football, Raheem Sterling has won more penalties than any other player in the Premier League this season (3). Additionally, no other club have won more penalties than Chelsea in the Premier League this season (8). When asked if this is an important skill possessed by Sterling, Pochettino said:

No! It’s good for the team. Today was good action and good performance to provide the team the penalty and then Palmer’s execution was excellent. So happy because he provides the team good things and helped to achieve the three points today, that we needed to be in a better position in the table.

The Blues boss believes it is not a peculiar skillset but he also did not deny the fact that it helps the team. Sterling has been instrumental for his manager who has been dealing with player injuries from the start of the season.

Chelsea and the prolonged tricky situation

The Stamford Bridge outfit has been tip-toeing around to grab wins by a fine margin. However, they have yet to find consistency. With 31 points in the bag, Chelsea sit at the eighth spot in the table.

Raheem Sterling has been consistent for Pochettino in terms of appearances so far. His services are needed now more than ever as Nicolas Jackson has departed for AFCON and Christopher Nkunku faces another injury woe.
