Jurgen Klopp offers injury update on £35m summer signing

Jurgen Klopp confirms Alexis Mac Allister will be fit to play vs Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Alexis MacAllister will be fit to face Chelsea in a midweek Premier League game after the Argentine was absent from their 5-2 FA Cup win over Norwich City.

It has come down to this after Klopp announced he will leave his position as manager of the Reds at the end of the current campaign. Before the kick-off against Norwich the Reds’ fans showered the German manager with cheers, expressing their deep affection for him.

Klopp rested the former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder after the player might have suffered something before the match, but it was confirmed he would be fit to face the Blues. Following their 5-2 thrashing of Norwich, Klopp spoke to the press, revealed why Mac Allister wasn’t in the lineup, (h/t Evening Standard), and told ITV:

“Alexis, he only rested today. The next game is around the corner, only three times sleeping, and then you play Chelsea here, which is obviously a different game, and then Arsenal away.”

Although Mac Allister is an intelligent midfielder who brings inventiveness to the game, he has only played in six games, which is out of his position and restricts his effectiveness. Although Klopp’s team has remained dangerous without any of their best players, his presence will benefit the Reds.

However, since Klopp announced he would leave the team at the end of the season, his players will now play every game as it’s the last match of the season and we will have to match their intensity.

Our midfield will have Mosies Caicedo who will be ready to counter Mac Allister’s effectiveness from the middle of the park. The Ecuadorian has been playing well lately, and he’ll be primed to take on the Reds.

This time, we will have to step up our game as Liverpool have been playing at their best despite the absence of some of their key players. We haven’t had results in our favour in the last game and it’s tough to play at Anfield as the atmosphere is always vibrant there.
