Romano confirms Jonathan David decision amid Chelsea links

Jonathan David won’t be joining Chelsea this winter

Prominent Italian journo Fabrizio Romano confirms that Chelsea won’t be able to sign Jonathan David from LOSC Lille. The Canadian star has interest from also Spain and Italy.

Even though David won’t be leaving the club this summer, his contract is set to expire in June 2025. This means, many clubs, including Chelsea, will be in the market for the 24-year-old forward. He currently has 17 goal involvements (11 goals and six assists) from 27 games across all competitions.

According to Football London (h/t Telefoot), Jonathan David admits he’s flattered by the rumours linking him to Chelsea. He said:

“When you’re young, these are the clubs you watch and think about. It’s flattering, I appreciate that.”

Chelsea probably entered the race a bit too late and now Mauricio Pochettino and Co. will have to shift their focus elsewhere while the transfer day deadline draws closer. The Blues haven’t made a permanent signing this time and will be looking forward to salvaging the situation in any way possible.

Pochettino’s requirement for a spearhead

The Blues boss desperately needs a striker. He needs someone up front to match Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer’s calibre and deliver more goals for the club.

The club has been splashing money ever since the American billionaire acquired the club from Roman Abramovic. The West Londoners have spent close to £1bn since May 2022. Needless to say, they are far from reaping the benefits.

The club is crowded with fine talents but also marred by recurring injuries. Despite having many options, the Chelsea managers are often on the lookout for fresh talents. Jonathan David seemed like the perfect piece in Pochettino’s puzzle but alas!
