Chelsea to learn Financial Fair Play fate today with points deduction a possibility – Report

Chelsea among the clubs set to discover their Premier League FFP fate today

Chelsea will learn what Premier League sanctions will be imposed on the Blues on January 15, as the league is set to decide on the clubs who are guilty of violating the Financial Fair Play rule.

The clubs are given specific dates to submit their accounts for 2022–23 by December 31 instead of March, and if there is any violation, the Premier League will notify the club to respond within two weeks.

The Blues have made extravagant spending and invested £1 billion under Todd Boehly in the last three transfer windows. However, given their clever signings on long-term deals, they could avoid breaking the league FFP rule.

According to journalist David Ornstein, (h/t Football.London), the Blues might be safe, as they have given players more than five-year contracts, spreading their salary throughout their deal.

Everton have already suffered a 10-point deduction after the club was charged with a breach of £20 million, and the other clubs could suffer the same fate as well. If the West Londoners face a points deduction, then they will be in big trouble and will further drop down the table, making things for the manager and owners more challenging.

What Ornstein has confirmed is that we seem to be on a safe page and should avoid breaking FFP. But it remains to be seen what the league will say today. By chance, if we face any sanctions and it’s a points deduction then it will be a big dent in the club’s progress and our hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
