Chelsea recall midfielder from one-time PL winners to bolster squad

Chelsea bring back Cesare Casadei from his Leicester City loan spell

According to Evening Standard, Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei has received a call back from parent club Chelsea after the player was loaned to Championship side Leicester City for the entirety of the season.

The 21-year-old’s short stint with the Foxes saw him record three goals in 25 appearances but only started eight league games for the Championship leaders.

The Blues currently lack depth in midfield following injuries to their players. Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Conor Gallagher are the only options, while Carney Carney Chukwuemeka recently returned from an injury.

Recalling the Italian midfielder may be due to the injury to the first-team players after Lesley Ugochukwu and Romeo Lavia sustained fresh injuries. The Blues lack a centre midfielder, therefore it makes sense for the team to bring Casadei back because Gallagher, Caicedo, and Fernandez won’t be able to play all the time and will also necessitate rest.

Casadei’s performance has also been convincing, and this could be the reason Blues thought about calling him back, but his return could see Andrey Santos go on another loan. Mauricio Pochettino is expected to play him in the second-leg game against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup on the 23rd.

Even though it seems like Casadei is unlikely to play much, Pochettino believes Chelsea will help him progress much more and make him equipped for the upcoming campaign.

Casadei will likely take over as Conor Gallagher’s replacement in the upcoming campaign since the Blues are considering selling the England international. It was a smart move to bring him back.
