William Gallas slams Chelsea for even considering to sell Pochettino mainstay: “I don’t know what’s going on”

Former Chelsea man William Gallas critical of Chelsea for considering Conor Gallagher sale

Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has expressed strong disapproval of the rumoured decision to sell midfield leader Conor Gallagher, who is currently captaining the squad in the absence of regular captain Reece James due to injury.

According to the Mirror, the Blues could sell Gallagher to make way for additional reinforcements in the middle of the park. However, that decision has faced strong criticism from a number of fans and pundits and the latest entrant to the list of people who wish to see the Cobham Academy graduate continue at Chelsea is former defender William Gallas.

Speaking to Lord Ping, he voiced his concerns about the potential move, questioning the logic behind parting ways with a player in such a pivotal role. Under Mauricio Pochettino, Gallagher has grown to become a vital part of the midfield alongside Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Here is what Gallas had to say:

“Chelsea want to sell Conor Gallagher? To where? We are talking about Gallagher, who is the current captain of Chelsea, what is going on at this club?”

“I don’t know what is going on with them. He’s the captain and OK they may have a £50m offer, but if you want to build a strong team, you need to keep these players and I get it some people do not like Gallagher’s style, but he’s your captain!”

“I don’t know what’s going on. If they do this, it will look like a huge mess,”

Gallas rightly emphasized the significance of Gallagher’s current role as the captain of Chelsea, stating that despite any substantial offers, keeping key players like the Englishman is essential for building a strong and cohesive team.

The former Marseille man also expressed confusion about the decision-making process and the possible consequences of selling Gallagher, particularly considering his leadership role within the team. Gallas concluded by suggesting that such a move would reflect poorly on the club, creating a perception of disarray.

Not that we are enjoying a great string of results in recent weeks, but a sense of continuity and assurance that the players at the club remain committed to the manager’s cause is a sense of calm for the fans as well. Gallagher has been putting in decent performances and it is essential to retain his services.
