“You surprise me”- Awkward moment for Mauricio Pochettino as he forgets Chelsea star

Mauricio Pochettino causes Chelsea frenzy after failing to recognise Malang Sarr

Mauricio Pochettino appeared to forget Malang Sarr when questioned about the player’s future at Chelsea during the post-match press conference after the win against Luton Town.

Sarr was signed in 2020 from OGC Nice with a lot of excitement due to his talent. He later enjoyed loan spells at FC Porto and AS Monaco as he aimed to make himself a first-team star at Stamford Bridge.

However, Sarr never hit his stride and has fallen down in the pecking order at Chelsea in centre-back options. It appears unlikely that he will be able to make his way into Pochettino’s plans after the Argentine’s answer to a reported question about the 24-year-old.

The Frenchman has only made 21 appearances for Chelsea since joining them, which indicates that he has degraded into an outcast at the club. Pochettino’s comments suggest that the young Frenchman isn’t really at the top of his plan for the club.

The Blues have enough depth in the defensive area, and it will be very challenging to see Sarr make an appearance this season. When asked about his future at Chelsea, (h/t Football.London) Pochettino said:

“Who? I don’t know because you surprise me; it’s like you punch. We were talking about Luton. After I explain, I wasn’t prepared for this.”

He was signed with so much potential, but he never stood out in the team, which caused him to fall down the priority list of players at the club. It is genuinely terrible to see him turn into fall down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. Sarr is only 24 and still has time to resuscitate his career; it makes little difference which team expresses interest, but if an offer is made, he should take it into consideration. He is likely to leave Chelsea because there are still a few days left until the transfer window closes.

It will be beneficial for him to try his career now rather than squander years at Chelsea. He is just 24 and let’s hope a club shows interest in signing him before the transfer window closes.
