Mauricio Pochettino voiced his disappointment at Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher’s red card

Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t happy with the way Conor Gallagher received a red card after Chelsea beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-2 in a nerve-wracking match.

The Blues broke the deadlock in 17 minutes when Enzo Fernandez headed the ball home. Four minutes later, Levi Colwill doubled their lead, but Brighton reduced the deficit before halftime in the 43rd minute through Facundo Buonanotte.

Two minutes later, Blues captain Gallagher received his second yellow after a careless foul, which put pressure on the Blues to guard their scoreline.

However, in the 65th minute, Chelsea doubled their lead when Mykhaylo Mudryk was pushed into the box and the referee awarded a penalty, which saw Fernandez make it 3-1 from the spot.

But there was more to come as Brighton piled pressure on Chelsea and once again reduced the deficit as Joao Pedro netted in the 92nd minute as the Seagulls searched for an equaliser. Chelsea remained resilient and managed to eke out a 3-2 win, but when asked about Gallgher’s red card, (h/t Metro) the Argentine manager said:

‘‘I don’t believe it was. I need to see it again. We need to understand the referee, but they also need to understand us. Look, this type of thing happens in football. Of course, [I am] disappointed because we should finish with a player, but it happens and we need to accept.”

We were playing with 10 men despite the score of 3-1, and we could have drawn the game due to Gallagher’s rash challenge that resulted in his red card. Eventually, the manager will have to accept these situations because every time they occur, they have an impact on the squad in numerous ways. Following Reece James’ red card against Newcastle United, this is our captain’s second send-off.

With eleven men, we were far more effective; nevertheless, when we lost one member, we had to work more tirelessly. We are grateful that Mudryk won the penalty kick because we could have drawn or lost this game. Players need to have that discipline.
