“If Chelsea can work a deal”- Pundit says Chelsea should offer 27-year-old striker target a 10-year contract

Gabriel Agbonlahor wants Chelsea to give 10-year-contract to Ivan Toney

Gabriel Agbonlahor has suggested Chelsea sign Ivan Toney and hand him a 10-year contract at the club after the striker has been linked with an exit from Brentford in January.

Toney had the option to leave the Bees last summer, but an eight-month ban saw the transfer collapse. The 27-year-old will return to action in January when the ban is lifted.

Brentford are aware that the club is keen on signing and has slapped a £100 million price tag. Chelsea are still looking for a centre-forward who can address their goalscoring issues and have listed Toney and Victor Osimhen as potential fits. However, the Blues’ priority has been Osimhen since last season; if they want him, they will have to wait until next summer.

Agbonlahor also wants Toney to join Chelsea instead of Tottenham Hotspur and has backed the Blues to beat their London rival for his acquisition. (h/t Football.London), Speaking to TalkSport, he said:

“Ivan Toney, for me, Spurs or Chelsea. If Chelsea can work a deal, maybe a 10-year contract, they look to do their contracts long, but I could see him at Chelsea.”

“I don’t think [Nicolas] Jackson’s the finished article that Chelsea needs, and Ivan Toney, imagine the goals he’d score at Spurs or Chelsea, top player.”

A 10-year contract is just way too much for a player who will reach 28 next year. Given how much bees are demanding, it’s absurd to spend that much on Toney. We can add more funds and sign Osimhen next summer, but for that, we will have to wait for the season to end. Until then we can expect Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson to take responsibility for scoring goals consistently.

Toney will be a great signing, but the amount is absurd, and we need to be sensible if we want a reliable striker. We can wait until next summer for Osimhen, rather than signing in haste.
