Serie A side recently rejected £21.5m bid for Chelsea target hoping for better offers from Premier League

Chelsea sound out interest in signing Italian defender Alessandro Buongiorno

As per the Sun, Chelsea will hunt for more defenders in the upcoming transfer window after Mauricio Pochettino’s request to add more quality at the back.

Now the Blues have started looking for top centre-backs and have now sounded their interest in Italian defender Alessandro Buongiorno, who plays for Serie A side Torino.

Buongiorno has been on the radar of other European clubs after attracting them with his performance for the Serie A club, where he made 12 appearances with two goals and an assist to his name.

The Blues have sent their scouts to watch the 24-year-old and will keep their tabs on him until December, as revealed by the Sun. However, the club faces competition from Juventus, Inter Milan, and AS Roma.

Chelsea can get their man for a decent price who has been rated around £35 million. Torino previously had a bid of £21.5 million from an Italian club, but the club turned down the offer as they wanted buyers to meet his price tag.

Chelsea have been conceding goals way too easily this season, and it’s because of their leaky defence. Sometimes the inexperience in the squad can be seen in the manner in which they let in goals. Silva is the only experienced centre-back, while others are still growing. The Blues are eighth in conceding most goals this season so far.

Buongiorno is performing admirably for his Serie A team this season, so if Chelsea can sign him, it will be intriguing to watch how quickly he can adjust to a Premier League club. The Italian defender should anticipate needing some time to adjust to the league, as we have seen with Axel Disasi, who signed this summer.

English top-flight energy makes settling extremely challenging since attackers are nimble and aggressive and may take advantage of any pocket of space.

Thiago Silva may depart the team next summer; therefore, Chelsea may search for more seasoned defenders who are in their late 20s and are familiar with the system. We will need a centre-back of the highest calibre to take Thiago Silva’s place.
