Pundit fears Chelsea could repeat Mason Mount mistake with Pochettino regular

Jason Cundy fears Conor Gallagher’s future might end up just like Mason Mount

Conor Gallagher‘s position within the club could face a similar ending as Mason Mount per talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy. Gallagher has risen from the academy ranks and is now a crucial figure for Pochettino’s side this year. The midfielder is the stand-in captain for the club.

However, the 23-year-old now enters the final 18 months of his contract with no talks of extension on the cards yet. This has urged Cundy to compare the situation with that of Mason Mount. He spoke to talkSPORT,

“He (Gallagher) hasn’t signed a new contract. He’s got 18 months left in January. I hope we don’t find ourselves in a situation like we did with Mason Mount.”

Jason Cundy further reveals how January should be the right time for the club to extend the contract for their stand-in captain. The Athletic reported a couple of days ago that Chelsea are prepared to listen to bids for Gallagher in January.

On the other hand, 90min claims Gallagher desires to stay with his boyhood club and remains dedicated. The whole saga has got the Blues supporters confused.

What went down with Mason Mount

Mason Mount was a coveted academy recruit who was meant for greatness with the club. However, the 24-year-old was off-loaded to Manchester United after failing to secure a position within the lineup that aligns with his reputation.

The news of Mason Mount’s transfer wasn’t received well by Chelsea fans who are now hoping Conor Gallagher not take the same route. Chelsea has a horde of midfield options at the moment. Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo were particularly brought to the club after spending hefty.

The manager has also requested for more players, particularly teenagers to bolster his side. It is quite possible that Mauricio Pochettino might not need Conor Gallagher’s service any more.
