Newcastle United interested in signing £37m-rated Chelsea loanee

Newcastle United weighing up move for Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku

Newcastle United are now eyeing a move for Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku, who is currently at AS Roma. The Magpies want to provide competition for Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak.

According to Belgian outlet Voetbalkrant, (h/t Football. London), the Tyneside have identified the striker as the perfect player to reinforce their attack after Lukaku’s scintillating performance for Roma with nine goals in 15 games.

Newcastle are blighted with injuries, which has forced them to look for more forwards next season. However, Roma are also keen on retaining the Belgian forward beyond his loan spell.

This could see the Blues finally get rid of Lukaku, who made it clear that he didn’t want to continue at Chelsea. Though his current form at Roma has raised questions at the club about why they didn’t utilise the 30-year-old given their goalscoring woes, his issues seemed to be more off the pitch than on it.

Meanwhile, the Blues have already reached an agreement with Lukaku about his leaving if they receive £37 million from his exit. If he continues with his current performance, he can attract more suitors by the end of this season.

On the other hand, the Blues are looking to sign a new striker and could move for him in January or the next summer transfer window. Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen remain possibilities for the Blues.

Chelsea will have more opportunities to sell Lukaku as a result, and the Blues stand to gain financially from his departure. He might become more valuable to more clubs if he keeps up his solid performance through the end of the season. Since their ownership changed, Newcastle have made significant financial investments and signed elite players. Now their injury woes could see them invest big in a player once again.

After failing to locate the 30-year-old at a permanent club, Chelsea will be delighted to let him go. Hopefully, he doesn’t suffer a drop in performance because it will complicate things for the Blues to offload him.
