Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea target ‘expected to stay’ at Serie A club in January after new contract

Victor Osimhen to stay at Napoli with a ‘lucrative’ offer awaiting him

Chelsea will have to cool down Victor Osimhen talks as he is set to renew a ‘lucrative’ contract, per Fabrizio Romano (via Twitter). The Italian journalist says the deal is “100%” done and confirmed. The deal will keep the Nigerian striker at Napoli until June 2026. He will be receiving a huge pay raise. The deal is set to be sealed before Christman.

Victor Osimhen has grabbed attention from all around following his brilliant form last season. The 24-year-old netted 26 goals and bagged five assists from 32 games. He was a key player alongside Kvaratskhelia in helping Napoli secure the Scudetto by a massive margin.

He has since been linked with many clubs, particularly Chelsea. Mauricio Pochettino was looking forward to adding Osimhen to strengthen his cavalry. However, the recent reports will have him change his approach.

January will be a crucial period for Chelsea who will face Middlesbrough in the EFL semifinal clash. The winter window incomings will certainly impact the club’s performance.

Is the Osimhen snub really bad news for Chelsea?

The Chelsea boss struggled with injuries for almost the entirety of the season so far. However, the present situation is much better for the Argentine manager. He now has Cristoper Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochuwku and Noni Madueke at his discretion.

The return of these players from injury will add more depth to the Blues squad, leaving their boss with fewer worries. Osimhen’s ‘X-factor’ was something that could have benefitted Chelsea. Nevertheless, Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer have been in fine form with Mykhaylo Mudryk and Nicolas Jackson stepping up.

A player of such a reputation does not always help. Pochettino would have been forced to fit the Napoli star into his starting XI, shaking the team chemistry. Chelsea does not have much to boast about this season but the peace between the players and managers is one of them.
