Chelsea superstar dropped cryptic social media message before starting XI snub vs Sheffield United

Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez started the win over Sheffield United on the bench

Enzo Fernandez posted a cryptic message after he found himself on the bench in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Saturday.

Since joining Chelsea, the former Benfica midfielder has started most of the games, but it came as a surprise after he was benched against Sheffield.

Fernandez has made an instant impact since joining the Blues and has scored three goals in all competitions already. He has been a vital member of the Mauricio Pochettino squad and has been a consistent starter.

However, benching him against a side that sits deep was a bit surprising, given Fernandez has the qualities to break down tight defences with his precise passes.

Chelsea usually suffers from low blocks, and they did so in the first half as both sides came into the second half with 0-0 scores, but they finally found a breakthrough in the 47th minute when Cole Palmer tapped the ball.

Nicolas Jackson doubled the lead seven minutes later, as Chelsea protected the lead until the final minutes and managed to secure a convincing win after two defeats in the past two games.

However, when Enzo found out he was on the bench, the midfielder posted a story on Instagram, (h/t Football.London), with the caption:

“Proverbios 30:30” with a lion emoji. Proverb 30:30 is a Christian proverb from the Bible and reads as follows: “A lion, mightiest among beasts, who retreats before nothing.”

Did Enzo take a dig at Pochettino for benching him?

Hopefully, Pochettino’s decision to bench the midfield player in order to rest him for our Carabao Cup quarterfinal matchup against Newcastle United midweek wasn’t intended as any kind of jab. He has played in every match, and Pochettino is aware of the calibre of player he brings to Chelsea. Nevertheless, we also need to work to control the injuries we currently have, so resting is essential to prevent him from becoming tired.

Young players’ attitudes can alter if they are not given proper care, but Pochettino is an expert at managing young players because of his past records. He has too many young players at Chelsea and will have to control their game time. The Argentine manager will surely turn Fernandez into a world-class midfield player.
