Chelsea joined in race by other clubs for Everton midfielder who is a regular starter

Manchester United join Chelsea and Arsenal for Amadou Onana

According to Foot Mercato, (h/t Express), Chelsea have been joined by Manchester United for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, despite the fact that the Toffees are unwilling to sell their star.

Barcelona are also said to be keen on signing the midfielder, and the interest keeps growing for the Belgian midfielder. The Blues and Arsenal were previously linked with the midfielder.

It remains unlikely that the Blues have concrete interest in signing the former LOSC Lille star, as their defensive midfield is already stacked with Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Lesley Ugochukwu.

United’s interest makes more sense as they need a defensive midfielder given that Casemiro has been in poor form and is currently injured. Sofyan Amrabat’s performance hasn’t been convincing, and it’s doubtful they will retain the Moroccan midfielder.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have struggled to locate a quality pivot since Sergio Busquets left, but given their financial problems, it will be challenging for them to land Onana, and the Toffees will slap a big price on him.

For Arsenal, they have Declan Rice, Jorginho, and Thomas Partey to fill in defensive midfield, but Partey and the Italian future look uncertain at Emirates.

The Blues right now have great depth in midfielders, but the majority of them are injured, and now Enzo Fernandez has also suffered the onset of pubalgia. This could force their hands to look for a midfielder in the market.

However, Lavia has started doing partial training and should return in January. Carney is still recovering from an injury. Onana’s performance deserves recognition because he has been Everton’s one of best midfielders, and after they suffered a 10-point deduction, the Belgian has played a key role in helping the club get out of the relegation zone.

The Toffees will not simply let their important midfield player depart and will try to maximise his exit. The thing is that there seem to be enough players in his position at Chelsea.
