“Things could have gone differently”- 27-year-old Belgian star details how his Chelsea career was ruined by injuries

Charly Musonda claims he would have one of the best Chelsea players if not for injuries

Charly Musonda has claimed that his time at Chelsea didn’t go as he expected, as injuries kept piling up, which kept him out of action for the majority of his career at the West London club. Musonda came through the Blues’ Academy before going on loan to Real Betis, Vitesse Arnhem and Celtic before leaving Stamford Bridge in 2022.

The now-27-year-old joined the Blues in 2012 and was touted as one of the best players Chelsea have produced from the academy, but little did they know it would turn into frustrating times ahead. Musonda suffered a serious knee injury that sidelined him for three years, and last summer he left the club, making only seven first-team appearances.

He is now playing for Anorthosis Famagusta in the Cypriot First Division, as he regrets not making the best of his playing career at Chelsea. The former Blues star has now opened up about his time at Chelsea and told The Athletic (h/t Express):

“It’s not like I had that moment, that stage where it was given to you and you didn’t take it That’s not the feeling I have of my time at Chelsea, and that’s what’s frustrating. I just want to play football. That’s where I’m at now. I just want to enjoy it again.”

“Had I been fully fit and had a bigger opportunity, then obviously things could have gone differently. But at the end of the day, that’s life; that’s the way things go. You have to have faith in the future.”

It is debatable if Musonda could have scaled the heights he believes he could have. While injuries are a part and parcel of the game, some players are just unfortunate to see their careers get derailed. Musonda might be just one of those. After all, there is no way what he might have achieved otherwise.

Talented players who have suffered so much from injuries are heartbreaking to see because you can see how good they are but cannot be used in the game because they aren’t fit enough. We saw Eden Hazard, who was constantly injured at Real Madrid when he left Chelsea and had to quit playing football.

If Musonda hadn’t missed three years due to a knee injury, he may have been one of our best players, but these unlucky situations in life are upsetting and can alter the trajectory of your career. Hopefully, he still has it in him to resurrect his career elsewhere. At 27, he still has time to charter a new course in his career.
