Report: Arsenal turn down approach for 25-year-old star; club could be Chelsea

Arsenal reject Premier League club approach for Aaron Ramsdale believed to be Chelsea or Newcastle United

According to ESPN, Arsenal have dismissed an approach from a Premier League club for Aaron Ramsdale, which is understood to be either Chelsea or Newcastle United.

Ramsdale is set to be in a dilemma over his future at Arsenal after his spot has now been occupied by loan signing David Raya, whose move, the Gunners are set to make permanent from Brentford.

The 25-year-old was the Gunners’ first-choice goalkeeper, and given Raya’s presence, his needs won’t be satisfied unless the Spanish goalkeeper suffers an injury.

It may also impact the England international’s game time at Emirates. This has aroused numerous Premier League teams, as Chelsea are rumoured to be keen on signing the 25-year-old.

With Euro 2024 also approaching, Ramsdale will also hope to make the England squad next season, but since becoming the second-choice goalkeeper this season, he has only played five minutes for the Three Lions, which is a worrying sign for him.

Chelsea currently have Robert Sanchez and backup goalkeeper Dorde Petrovic, while Kepa Arrizabalaga is on loan to Real Madrid, so signing another goalkeeper doesn’t seem necessary.

If Thibaut Courtois recovers from his injury, Kepa could return to Chelsea, giving the Blues three goalkeepers for the upcoming campaign. However, nothing is set in stone, as a report suggests they may decide to keep the Spanish goalkeeper beyond his loan period.

Sanchez has performed patchily in certain games, but overall, he has been good for the Blues. Nothing is certain; if the Blues decide they need a custodian in the upcoming summer transfer window, they might pursue one. The Blues can look to the market for a custodian if Mauricio Pochettino feels he needs additional support between the sticks.

If Ramsdale is available, we should take him since he is an exceptional custodian who has experience playing in the Premier League. However, as of now, it doesn’t seem necessary to sign a goalkeeper, and we don’t know who approached Arsenal for Ramsdale.
