“Not necessarily” – Tottenham Hotspur manager shares his opinion on Chelsea’s massive spending

Ange Postecoglou says he wouldn’t enjoy it if Tottenham Hotspur spent extravagant sums like Chelsea

It seems like Ange Postecoglou isn’t a big fan of clubs spending hefty money during the transfer window after the Tottenham Hotspur manager revealed he wouldn’t like Tottenham Hotspur spending huge money on signing players like Chelsea did under Todd Boehly.

His comments may look like a jibe at the Blues’ extravagant spending in the previous summer window, as they recorded £1 billion in expenditure since the ownership of Boehly.

Both sides will face off on Monday evening, which will mark Mauricio Pochettino’s return to Spurs as Chelsea’s manager since his sacking by the club in 2019.

When facing the team presently leading the Premier League, the West Londoners, who are rebuilding their pricey roster, will have a point to prove on Monday.

During the press conference, the Tottenham head coach was questioned regarding Blues spending and was asked if he would have the luxury of that much financial backing, (h/t Mirror) He said:

“Not necessarily. I’ve always said I’ve never felt it was about just spending money. That’s been proven time and time again. If you get it all right, then you’ve got a pretty strong case, but there’s always a limit to every team. You can’t have 24 world-class players. That will never work; it doesn’t work; it has been proven.”

It makes sense that Postecoglou would want a team that complements his style of play. In football, every coach has distinct demands. Given that the majority of Chelsea’s players were in their late 20s and when Boehly arrived he preferred to concentrate on signing young players, which saw the club going through a complete overhaul of the squad.

Postecoglou saying we have world-class players isn’t entirely true because all of them are young and still developing. And if he feels that it won’t work, that’s his opinion. We’ll soon find out how things turn out since Mauricio Pochettino is doing a great job and has enhanced our performance massively.
