Newcastle star says his team proved how ‘strong’ they are in Chelsea win

Joelinton was on the scoresheet as his side thrashed Chelsea 4-1

Joelinton’s third goal against Chelsea gave Newcastle United relief as they put pressure on the Blues, who struggled to cope with the Magpies’ intensity.

Thiago Silva in the 61st minute gifted the Magpies their third goal as Joelinton pounced on the pass and blazed the ball past Roberto Sanchez.

For the West Londoners, it was just a humiliating day as they looked foolish and let goals slip through their fingers. They gave in to a horrified defeat and were unable to rally and could not come up with solutions.

Newcastle weren’t that much better; we just allowed them to take advantage of our mistakes, and it was very regretful that we lost a game that was in our hands.

Joelinton will now be brimming with confidence as he scored an important goal, and now his side will take on Paris Saint-Germain midweek. The midfielder shared thoughts on his side’s performance, (h/t BBC), and said:

“Everyone who comes in knows what to do. We were disappointed after the last game; we didn’t play well. We started this game well, showed a lot of energy, wanting to prove how strong we are, and I think we did.”

“This win makes everyone feel confident. We have to go game by game, but we take one game at a time. Now we rest and prepare for Paris on Tuesday.”

Give credit where credit is due; Newcastle deserved to win because we weren’t up to par. Their physicality was too much for us to handle, so they punished us. However, tying with Manchester City created irrational expectations, as everyone believed we would easily win this match.

However, each team poses unique questions, and we grow from our mistakes. Although we performed poorly, we certainly learned from it and will make up for it in the next game. This is still a young team, and with time, we will have answers to every question soon.
