“I think you are wrong” – Pochettino responds to critics after Chelsea win against Tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea were the better side in their 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino defended Chelsea’s performance against Tottenham Hotspur after the Blues routed nine-man Tottenham 4-1. Spurs were down to nine men when Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were given red cards, but they managed to hold their ground as Chelsea found it difficult to penetrate their defence.

Spurs later switched to high-line which saw the Blues establish their footing and generate numerous opportunities. Chelsea had several chances to score more than 4-1, but they wasted them.

Pochettino believes that Nicolas Jackson’s hat-trick will be a turning point for the Senegalese forward. The Blues, however, found it difficult to stall the Spurs attack, which had two goals disallowed for offside.

Dejan Kulusevski gave the North Londoners the lead in just the fifth minute of the game before Cole Palmer equalised from the spot in the 35th minute. Subsequently, Jackson wrapped up the game with a hat-trick in the 75th, 94th, and 97th minutes.

But after the game, the Argentine manager asked if Chelsea should have put Spurs away sooner, (h/t Evening Standard), he said:

“I think you are wrong. If you watch Tottenham versus Liverpool, they scored in the last minute. It’s never easy [against a team with] two players sent off. It’s difficult now to talk about tactics, but most important is the 4-1 win and three points.”

Spurs were considerably better than us and consistently created chances, which we were helpless to stop. Fortunately, their goals were disallowed; otherwise, given that they had taken the lead in just the fifth minute of play, the game would have seen plenty of goals in the match. However, once they lost two men, we took command of the game and were able to take advantage of their nine men.

This was a similar game to Liverpool when the Reds were two men down against Spurs and lost 2-1, when they conceded in injury time, while we won 4-1, which speaks a lot about our performance.
