Mauricio Pochettino pinpoints ‘obvious’ Chelsea flaw after Brentford defeat

Mauricio Pochettino insists he is not worried despite Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford

Pochettino said he is not worried after Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford and claimed they have played better against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal. This inconsistency has certainly cost us dear this season.

The Blues this season have struggled to secure a win against decent sides, but they were far better when they came up against Liverpool and Arsenal. Chelsea drew with Liverpool 1-1 in the first game of the season and were far better than Arsenal, but a poor mistake in the game saw both sides share spoils.

Pochettino’s team’s primary problem has been finding the back of the net, which has prevented them from being an imposing team. If they wish to finish the season in the top four, they must promptly fix this.

The identical scenario happened against Brentford. We had numerous opportunities to end the game early in the first half. Raheem Sterling skied his attempt, Marc Cucurella got a fantastic opportunity but squandered it, and Noni Madueke struck the post. Chelsea would have been up 3-0 if every one of these shots had found the back of the goal.

But the Argentine manager feels we have been better with top sides but have struggled against decent teams, (h/t Mirror), as he told the reporters:

“Of course, when you see a game like today or against Nottingham Forest when we dominate and cannot score goals when the block is so deep and there are too many bodies in the box, we struggle a little bit to score. But in different games, when you play teams like Arsenal or Liverpool, I think the team did really well, and that’s why we’re not worried. We need to move on.”

Playing against a team that sits deep and relies on counterattacks results in this. First of all, we are already having a hard time scoring goals. Secondly, when you play a team that sits deep, it is extremely difficult to break them down. Lastly, once they take the lead, their whole squad will create a deep blow, making it impossible to break them.

We did, however, have opportunities to convert, but as usual, our ineptitude cost us the game. Liverpool and Arsenal are not teams who like to defend during the entire game they are equal in both attack and defence.
