“It’s a personal trophy, it’s an amazing feeling” – Chelsea summer signing speaks after winning monthly Premier League award

Chelsea summer signing Robert Sanchez sees his save voted Premier League’s best in September

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has expressed his delight after being named Premier League Save of the Month for September.

Sanchez won the award for his phenomenal reflex stop to deny Aston Villa forward Nicolo Zaniolo last month. The Spaniard’s stunning close-range save came after Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara headed a corner back across goal to Zaniolo.

Reacting instantly, Sanchez brilliantly tipped the Italian’s powerful volley over the bar when it looked a certain goal.

That intervention earned Robert Sanchez the most public votes for September’s best save, ahead of five other nominees.

In an interview following the award covered by Chelsea’s official website, the summer signing from Brighton commented that though he felt amazing, it is currently time to put team success at the forefront.

‘It was a game with a lot of saves in it, I did a similar save five minutes before that one, left-footer, volley, so I was getting ready for a similar shot. There were a lot of bodies in the way as well, so I just got ready, tried to see the ball and react to it. It’s a personal trophy, it’s an amazing feeling, but now it’s time to get some team awards as well.’

The 25-year-old has quickly established himself as Chelsea’s number-one following his transfer to Stamford Bridge. He has registered four clean sheets in his first ten appearances for the Blues.

Even though Sanchez made a number of great saves in the match against Villa, the Blues ultimately lost the match 0-1. Chelsea’s terrible attack failed to complement the Spaniard’s phenomenal performance. They ultimately succumbed to Ollie Watkins’ goal and lost.

Though now the young boys in Blue have finally begun to find their groove. They have won their last three matches netting seven times in the process. Manager Mauricio Pochettino‘s plans have finally begun to bore fruit.
