Injury Update: 25-year-old star set to return to Chelsea training in coming weeks

Christopher Nkunku is set to return to Chelsea training in coming weeks

When Chelsea signed Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig midway through last season, everyone thought the Blues managed a coup and rightly so.

The Blues wrapped up the deal before anyone could wink. If this had gone to a bidding war, it is highly unlikely that we would have convinced him in the absence of Champions League football.

Chelsea in fact placed so much faith in him that they let Kai Havertz leave for Arsenal to make room for him. Christopher Nkunku seemed like he would repay that faith early on during the pre-season where he was simply terrific.

As luck may have it though, he suffered a serious injury that has kept him out for so long and is set to keep him out for a bit more. Injuries are not something that a club can plan for and Pochettino has gone with different players in that position.

However, secretly, there is no doubt that the Argentine manager will be hoping that the Frenchman returns soon. Looks like he might not have to wait for much longer though as there is an update on the once-PSG youth star.

According to Football. London, Nkunku is stepping his recovery up and is close to returning to light training with the squad. It might still be a while before he can play a football game but these are promising signs.

Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja have not really convinced for Chelsea this season and sadly, they don’t have any other natural number nine. Nkunku can play there but also bring the best out of these players by playing slightly behind them.

Let’s not forget how well Nkunku and Jackson linked up during pre-season. A midfield base of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez with someone like Nkunku ahead of them could be the dream.

Whilst it is good news that the Frenchman is returning, we must be careful with him and not take any chances. A complete recovery must be prioritised so let’s see how long it takes for him to come back.
